Compliance & Certification

Interoperability and serviceability are only as strong as the standards behind them. OpenSFF provides a foundation for interoperability across vendors, with an emphasis on longevity and sustainability. Our next step is building a transparent compliance and certification process that vendors and users can rely on for true interoperability.

OpenSFF compliance will be available in two tiers, giving vendors a clear path from initial adoption to full certification:

OpenSFF Compatible

Manufacturers who build to OpenSFF specifications can declare their products compatible, signaling their commitment to an open, modular hardware ecosystem.

  • Available to OpenSFF members who self-declare conformity with the applicable specifications.

  • Signals intent to follow the open standard through published mechanical, electrical, and interface guidelines.

  • Ideal for early adopters, prototypes, and rapid market entry.

OpenSFF Certified

Certification is the formal process through which products are tested and validated against the applicable OpenSFF specification by OpenSFF or a designated certification body.

  • Available to members and non-members, subject to applicable licensing fees.

  • Verifies compliance with the applicable mechanical, electrical, and airflow requirements.

  • Grants eligibility to use the official OpenSFF Certified mark.

  • Gives buyers, integrators, and IT teams greater confidence in conformity and interoperability.

  • The certification path is a requirement for Enterprise-class Compute Nodes and Enclosures

OpenSFF Certified Label

Version Specific Certification

OpenSFF Certification applies to the specification version against which a product was tested. Products may still interoperate across versions, but products must be recertified to maintain compliance with the latest standards.
